We Love Guangzhou/Red Couch Photos

We got to Guangzhou late Friday night and really like it here so far. It kind of reminds me of Florida with the humid weather and tourist shops. Julianna had her medical appointment yesterday for the US consulate side of the paperwork. Needless to say, there were many tears shed by Julianna. After that we went shopping, and everything is dirt cheap (children's dresses for less than $10). We also went to a McDonald's and had some good American food. All of the stares and people obviously talking about us made us feel like Brad and Angelina:)

On Sunday morning, we went to Christ Church for the morning Chinese/English service. It was a blessing because it's been such a dream of ours to be in church as a family. The pastor preached on being thankful, and we are definitely thankful to the Lord for Julianna. We had the famous "Red Couch" pictures in the afternoon. Let's just say it was traumatic. We did get a picture, but it was not without some major tears.

Julianna can sit and lay between Ed and me on the bed now without tears, and he can get up a little with just some whimpering on her part. She is still laughing and smiling a lot. She also sat on half of my lap and half of Ed's on Sunday for lunch. Here are some pictures of the Jernigans:

  1. So glad to hear about those smiles and giggles from Julianna. I can tell from the pictures that she is beginning to feel more at ease. I love the lady bug dress, by the way :) She is a doll!

  2. Hello! Leeanne! Just got back from D.C. You have been on my mind! Found the blog! Julianna is adorable! My advice: Take a deep breath and RELAX!!! I remember my husband being so much more relaxed than me and my daughter definitely picked up on it! Teething tablets! You have been blessed...everything will fall into place...sending prayers and good thoughts your way! Miss you! Tonia

  4. LeeAnne,

Glad to see those pictures. Be patient. Julianna will turn around soon enough. It took Joley one whole month to allow Russ to hold her. We will see you in Huntsville.

  5. Ni Hou Jernigans,

Glad to hear everything is going well. Mikala also cried alot the first week or two. It sounds like Julianna is adjusting normally. Does Guangzhou still have the light show over the Pearl River in the evening? If so, walk down to Shamian Park, that is the best place to watch it. We are praying for the three of you, enjoy every second of this adventure.

  8. Ed and LeeAnne,
Julianna is so beautiful; we will continue to pray for all of you and for your trip home. Since she looks so much like you, I guess it is only fair that she let Ed hold her so much, but just remember, no one can take the place of a mother. We love yall and can't wait to see you and meet Julianna.

  9. I am so glad you are enjoying your time in China. I am glad to see Julianna is starting to be a little more receptive. She seems to be adapting quite well. Hang in there LeeAnne, you have a beautiful daughter and I can already tell she has her mommy and daddy wrapped around her little finger. (BTW, I agree with LeAndra about the family resemblance!)
